A Pretty Picture at Tulum

Our guide at the ruins showed us a picture I wish they had had in their cultural center, I would have bought one. The temple that is built at the angle of the axis is positioned so that it plays a big part in the culture. On June 21, the day of the summer solstice, as the sunrises out of the Caribbean there is an are of yellow/gold that perfectly encircles the temple. At the moment of sunrise light bursts through a small opening in the center of the temple in a beam like a laser. It was a demonstration of the power of the priests to bring light and marked the time of the beginning of the rainy season. The picture was breathtaking, I can only imagine what it would look like to be standing there.

I may try to find a picture of it online, if I find it, I will post a link!
