Travelin to Arkansas

My dad was from the Northeast corner of Arkansas. We lived in South Texas. We made the 620 mile tirp at least once a year. In the 1950's the car trips to see my grandparents took sixteen hours. With four of us kids in the back seat, it was crowded. And since we did not have air conditioning, it was hot too.

We usually had the leg room in the back seat piled as high as the bench seats with boxes, and all covered by a blanket, so we had room to sit or lie down. It was a long trip, but we all loved going to see Grandma and Grandpa.

Ron Paul Goes To DC

I saw on the news last night that Ron Paul is going to announce his candidacy for the President of the United States today. Trick Falls may be intrigued by Ron Paul as Dr. Paul is a lifelong libertarian.

The announcement caught my attention because long ago I pitched batting practice to Ron Paul. In a town in which I grew up Dr. Paul came to set up his medical practice, OB/GYN if I recall correctly.

The summer after he was first elected to Congress, I was coaching his son in a teenage baseball league. Dr. Paul called me one night very excited. He had just learned that he was going to play in the congressional baseball game that was going to be played in RFK Stadium in a few weeks. He was going to be allowed to wear an Astros' uniform, as he represented the district in South Texas. He wanted me to throw batting practice to him so that he wouldn't make a fool of himself when he was on the field with his colleagues. So I threw batting practice to the congressman, and he did okay.

During the year of the bicentennial, may contact with Dr. Paul's office in Washington, DC. We were going to take a trip to the capital, and we wanted to get tickets to see Congress in session. We got to go and pick up our tickets and Dr. Paul's office. We had an aide take us on an underground train from his office in the Capitol building and give us a tour. We still have pictures of the girls sitting in the congressman's chair in his office and with the aid in the Capitol building.

I wonder if McCain and Romney can hit!
