I Hate Jet Lag

I wrote this piece last year after a trip to Minsk, Belarus.

I got home last night at about 10 pm, ate a bite and was in bed before 11. I had taken a pm pain reliever, hoping that it would help me sleep till daybreak so I could get back on the regular schedule as quickly as possible.

Belarus is 8 hours ahead of the central time zone in the U.S. We had to leave there at 3 in the morning to check in at the airport at 3:30 for our 5:30 a.m. flight.
Our itinerary was to fly to Vienna, then to Washington, D.C., then on to Houston. From door to door, it took about 27 hours. I call that a long day! I had only slept 3 hours the night before we left, so I just knew I would sleep like the dead last night. And really I did.

But only till 4 a.m. I woke up thinking it should be noon. I tried to lay there and go back to sleep, but at 4:40 I decided it was useless. I got up and started going through the mail, getting bills paid, getting dirty clothes into the laundry, organizing the souveneirs for distribution to grandkids and secretaries and doing other jobs that needed to be done to get back to normal.

I got to the office at 8:15 and organized things here a bit too. It is now a little after 9 and I am thinking it should be quitting time. I will have to fight myself to stay and do a days work and go home at a regular time, stay up till regular time hoping I will not feel so yucky for another day or two. Maybe catching up with my writing up friends will help me accomplish that.

I hate jet lag, but I am glad to be home!

Vacation Home Rentals

My wife and I are considering a getaway just to recharge our batteries. We want to spend a week somewhere without having to enter any phones or meeting any schedules. We like the idea of browsing through vacation rentals by owner and living someplace catch our imagination. We might like a mountain cabin with trails to hike and a view of a lake. Maybe a beach house with balcony from which to view the sunset. VLBO.com has lots of high-resolution images and descriptions in a wide range of destinations from which to make our selection. Choosing maybe half the fun!

Bulgaria Beach Property

When you think of beach front resorts, you might not first think of Bulgaria. But the gorgeous beach of golden sand with views of mountains and the river and thick vegetation might change your mind. The resort area northeast of Varna features hot mineral water springs, casinos and other attractions add to the value of the Golden Sands property. An investment there would be an investment in a good time and a good chance to realize financial gain!

Rocky Mountaineer Trips

I was watching Wheel of Fortune a couple of days ago when one of the prizes was a Train Trip in Canada. It looked very interesting, so I went online to see more about it! You can take various lengths of trips, from three day to twelve day trips. They originate in Vancouver and stop each night so that travelers get to see all the majestic scenery that the trains pass.

There are two levels of service, Red Leaf and Gold Leaf. The Red Leaf service provides seats that swivel and have extended legroom and other amenities. The Gold Leaf service gives travelers the same kind of seating, but in a specially designed coach with a full length domed observation level!

Check out the link above if you want to see the photo gallery or the video presentation of the Rocky Mountaineer!

Was Atlantis Real?

Do you enjoy unraveling the threads of history from the legends and myths of the past? If so then you simply must go to Atlantiskingdom.com and read their propositions regarding the idea that Atlantis Was a Real Place, the Americas.

They espouse the idea that the Greek philosopher and educator from ancient days, Plato, is responsible for the beginnings of the stories of Atlantis. He gathered a group of scholars from the various schools of thought to come and speak to his students. Beside him, there were four other key scholars who spoke, Socrates, Hermocrates, Timaeus, and Critias. Plato’s students made up the audience that first heard the stories from Critias as he described Atlantis.

Many believe that the Americas, from what is now South America, to Alaska were once one large island that made up the kingdom of Atlantis.

The website has many persuasive ideas and, and you might find it fascinating to go and determine whether you believe they are credible.

Here is a press release:

Atlantis Was a Real Place, the Americas

The kingdom of Atlantis included North, South, and Central America. It was divided into ten countries or kingdoms and each country had its own King. One of the kingdoms was also called Atlantis. The King of Atlantis was the ruler over the other nine Kingdoms. The first ruler of the Kingdom was called Atlas. This is how Atlantis got its name.

The royal city of the kingdom was located within the country of Atlantis. Within the royal city there was a royal palace. Originally, three different moats surrounded the royal palace. Plato referred to the moat formation as three zones of water and two zones of land.

As time went by they covered over the moats and cut three canals through the peninsula on which the royal palace was located. The construction of the canals divided the peninsula and formed two triangular shaped islands. The island that held the royal palace was called Atlantis. That is why Atlantis is referred to as a continent, and city, and an island.

Read the short version of Plato’s story at www.atlantiskingdom.com to learn more about Atlantis and the Americas. Then read Plato’s Timaeus and Critias to get the complete story.

I have matched the terrain features that Plato wrote about with present terrain features found in the Tampa Bay area. Research shows that Plato described Harbour Island as the small island of Atlantis. You will find that Plato recorded and published the story just as it was told. He even recorded the discussions leading up to the story. You will also notice several obvious mistakes made in translating the story from Egyptian to Greek and from Greek to English. The biggest mistake occurred when travelers came upon a shoal of mud and thought it was left over from the sunken island. They were wrong. The continent of Atlantis did not sink.

You are invited to review the facts to see for yourself that the Americas, from South America to Alaska were once the kingdom of Atlantis, a single nation. The land formation is still laid out the same as it was over 11,000 years ago. It is best viewed from the air. See image.

Trip to Belarus

We have a group from the congregation going to Belarus in a few days. The air fares are up substantially this year. And what make it worse is that there is no way for them to get all the way home in one day when they return. They will have to overnight in Frankfurt. It is a nice enough hotel, but when you are on the way home, you just want to go home!
